Poor Bear, burned by the wildfire!

Poor Bear, burned by the wildfire!

Well…the excitement continues here in La Veta.  While I was away at work yesterday, my husband, Kenny, captured these amazing pictures of an injured bear who showed up just feet away from our bedroom window.

Kenny happened to be walking through the bedroom when he spotted him at our bird bath.  He said the bear reached up with one finger and tipped the bowl to see what was inside.  When it fell to the ground, he investigated and kept searching for the water he just knew was in there.

Then he slowly sauntered closer to the house, most likely on his way to one of bird feeders near the other bedroom window.  Kenny then opened the window and asked the bear, “What are you doin’ out there, Knothead?”  The bear looked at him as if to say, “Hey!  How’d you know my name?” – then shot out and ran up the hill.  At that time, Kenny didn’t realize the bear had an injured foot.  When we examined the photos more closely, we noticed it definitely looks burned.

Poor guy was just searching for a drink of water and a place to soak his scorched foot!  And all he could find was our piddly little bird bath.  Not only are our hearts aching for those who lost their homes, property, and livestock, but we feel so helpless when we see suffering and displaced creatures, such as this bear, wander into our area.  We would all be so very grateful for a good, drenching rain!

  1. Sorry for all the displaced everybody-especially the animals. My friends @ Wet Mtn Wildlife Refuge have a lot of fawns and 2 bear cubs. Sorry your bear was hurt. Glad you’re back safe
